Yet Another Legend: Mary Kom’s Unfinished Fight -A Legacy That Inspires and Continues

There are countless untold stories of courage, stories of individuals who defy norms, challenge limitations, and carve their own paths despite immense resistance. Women, in particular, have often faced unseen battles, navigating criticism, societal expectations, personal sacrifices, and professional struggles. Some break through, not just for themselves but for the generations that follow.
I salute all those women who stand tall despite these challenges, who prove that self-determination is the ultimate force of change. At times, simply leading a regular life can feel like an uphill battle. And yet, there are those like Mary Kom, who not only rise above adversities but redefine what is possible.

A Journey Defined by Perseverance
Born in Manipur in 1982, Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom came from a humble background, where access to opportunities was limited. Her parents, working as farmers, instilled in her the values of hard work and perseverance. But the path she chose is “boxing” and it’s far from conventional. At a time when the sport was predominantly male-dominated, she stepped forward, defying societal expectations.
I am in awe of her resilience. Taking up a sport with no financial backing, no resources, and no clear path forward requires an extraordinary level of determination. Many of us face doubts and setbacks, but Mary Kom’s life is a reminder that it is not about what we lack but it is about what we do with what we have.
Her journey was not about ease or privilege; it was about fighting against all odds — literally and metaphorically.
